About the Author

Writing + Science Fiction + Graphic Design + Games + Coffee

Furious fingers flashing furtive flights of fancy filling fabulous files with phantasmagorical fantasies… before pausing for a cappuccino.

J.D. FitzRoy is an author, filmmaker and designer living in the South West UK. If you spot him in the wild, he’ll probably be in the cinema, or out in the great beyond, exploring the world. While writing or creating, he listens to music and enjoys relaxing in cafes with a coffee. J.D. has collaborated with his sister A.J. on the short story collection, Consumption. He’s currently working toward the completion of his epic space opera that begins with book 1, “The Fugue State”. Through design, J.D. also creates board and card games through his ASTROLABe label. The board game for his novel, “The Fugue State” is currently being play-tested.

J.D. has been inventing futuristic worlds since childhood. His primary genre includes Hard SF and philosophical fiction, but he often experiments with styles creating hybrid works. Inspired by the writings of J.G. Ballard, A.C. Clarke, Iain M. Banks and P.K. Dick, J.D.’s works feature taught worlds with surreal inversions and introspective labyrinths. Twisted nightmare scenarios of optimism in direct competition with antagonistic external or internal forces.

J.D. has completed several books, many shorts and a B.A. (Hon) at Birkbeck College U.C.L. As a filmmaker, he’s worked as producer, cameraman and editor, creating documentaries and promotional films for individuals and charities.

This webzone is dedicated to the writings, musings, films and creative works of J.D. and friends. You may also see occasional journal entries, toolkits and tuition for aspiring writers and creatives.
