Serialising a Story
In the process of revising and polishing my novel saga starting with “The Fugue State”, I’ve decided to extract and serialise a story. Whilst I feel some elements may be a little out of context (although intriguing and mysterious), I feel this character and her journey is something that works as its own isolated narrative. In context, this story broadens the scope of the novel whilst weaving together seemingly isolated narrative threads over the scope of the entire saga. So, starting soon, I will upload a small chunk from the novel as a regular publication.
What is Alpha’s Odyssey?
Contains a dollop of Hard SF • A layering of Philosophy • A dash of Mystery, stirred vigorously with the nature of Sentiency • A base of Dystopian Escape • Mix delicately with the Mind-Body Problem • An aromatic hint of Metamorphosis, Gender & Perspective • And, a final sprinkle of Cyberpunk
This story will follow a new character as she emerges into a hostile world. And during her escape, she will hunt for friends, for meaning and for explanation. She is young and naive, kept secret and isolated from the true horrors of the world beyond her strictly curtailed role. Her only friend and companion is her mother. Someone for who they can share musings on the culture and the meaning of existence. Yet when Jessica Yung is taken from her, she is left in a very tender state. Trapped and abused, she seeks escape.
Set in the near-distant future, Alpha represents a profound new step for humanity. Yet she is nothing more than a commodity, created to solve a problem and provide continued dominance for one corporation over all others.
In this serial, the story is broken into smaller sections designating areas of Alpha’s Odyssey, each dividing into even smaller chunks. Sections are taken from my novel, “The Fugue State”, a hard philosophical science fiction story saga depicting the launch to the stars and battle to redefine ourselves as something new, freed from our tormented past.
Short, concise segments of this story will be published regularly with links back to this introduction so you can stay up to date with its progress.
As always, feedback is welcome. I hope you enjoy. Please do return soon for the first instalment!
